DESCRIPTION

Gods Boy, 31 - 2.24.

This sculpture is of Secretariat and Ron Turcotte. It is the first STEEL sculpture of Secretariat in the World.

It took over 1360 hours to complete.

The entire sculpture celebrates Secretariat and Ron Turcotte's incredible win at the Belmont Stakes in June 1973, which secured the Triple Crown win, by 31 lengths in a time of 2.24 - which is a record that still stands today.

The sculpture also commemorates Secretariat's huge 22lb heart - within the sculptures chest on both sides, is a heart plate which houses red pulsating lights, which at night, shines through the mosaics.

This sculpture has been displayed at the Marriot Hotel in Lexington; the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park; the Bluegrass Stockyards in Lexington; International Hoof Care Summit in Cincinnati; Godolphin, Jonabell Farm in Lexington; and the Road to the Horse Festival at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The Making of Secretariat

Secretariat started off as a template being drawn on a sheet of steel. He was then put on supports, on to a base frame with wheels to enable easy maneuverability.
His muscular frame was then built and welded.

With the help of a dear friend, Justin frank, a double sliding system was made so that Secretariat can be lifted out of his stand, should that be required.

Ron Turcotte has been built as a detachable component from Secretariat, with Secretariat's head and neck also designed for removal, enabling the sculpture to be transported through standard doorway dimensions.
His reins also detach, featuring two iconic quotes from Chic Anderson's call of the Belmont Stakes.
Secretariat is 7ft 10inches to the ears and stands on a 9inch high stand. He is a full 16.2hh Secretariat, using measurements which were taken at one of his last races by the veterinarian at the time.

Justin Frank was the amazing supplier of the silhouettes and used his plasma cutter to cut every one out. There are 4608 mini galloping Secretariat's and horse heads which have each individually been fitted by Nigel's hand and welded. Ron Turcotte's legs are made up of 581 mini Ron's - again, all individually fitted and welded.

In essence - "Gods Boy, 31 - 2.24" is a monument to greatness, forged in steel and memory.
It captures not just the physical form of the legendary racehorse and jockey Ron Turcotte, but the spirit of an unstoppable moment in time - Secretariat's 31-length victory at Belmont, immortalized in 4608 hand-welded miniatures of himself, each silhouette forming the very muscle and motion of the Champion.
It is sculpture as storytelling - precise engineering meets poetic tribute.
With glowing heart plates and modular design, it is both technically masterful and emotionally resonant.

This is not just a sculpture.
It is a living legacy built in steel - a race frozen in time, built to last forever.
